About the Exhibit

Thirty-four photographs from sixteen members of the Lakeway Photography Club serve as a collective passport, capturing Kyoto’s ancient temples, Shanghai’s neon skylines, the expansive Kenyan savanna, and the vibrant streets of Quito and New Orleans. What began as a simple theme has evolved into an invitation to discover how uniquely sixteen artists perceive our shared world. The exhibition will be on view throughout August 2026 at the Lake Travis Community Library. Please join us for the opening reception on Saturday, August 8, 2026.

About the Club

Founded in 2023, the Lakeway Photography Club brings local photographers together, regardless of experience level. Whether you just picked up a camera or have been shooting for decades, our free community offers a place to grow and create. We gather at the Lake Travis Community Library for topical photography discussions and demonstrations, while sharing our passion with the public through annual exhibitions. Ever since getting my first Nikon at sixteen, photography has been a passionate pursuit of new techniques. From fashion shows to photo challenges, I love pushing boundaries. Travel is my ultimate playground for experimentation—a place to test lenses, discover unique perspectives, and capture fleeting, singular moments through hands-on exploration.

Since adopting digital photography in the early 2000s, I’ve avoided a single subject to keep my creativity fresh. My eclectic portfolio ranges from family travels, wildlife, and landscapes to the sleek, mechanical lines of planes, trains, and automobiles.

As a retired computer programmer, I now dedicate my time to my twin passions: singing and photography. My technical background comes in handy as I focus on mastering Lightroom and Photoshop to elevate my images.

As a native Texan living in the Austin area for 55 years, my nearly lifelong journey in photography has evolved from black-and-white film to color slides, and finally to digital. Though deeply rooted at home, I am well-traveled, using my camera to capture the world through every stage of my photographic evolution.

My passion for photography began with a Kodak Instamatic in 1968, and today I bridge both film and digital worlds. Highly versed in digital editing, I even turned photo restoration into a successful side hustle. Creatively, I am deeply inspired by the mastery of color and narrative in the work of Stephen Shore and Gregory Crewdson.

Standing atop the peak, I was mesmerized by a surreal, ashen landscape showcasing the earth’s raw power. In that breathtaking silence, I experienced a profound realization of just how small we are in the vast passage of time.

As a “hunter” photographer inspired by Cartier-Bresson, Winogrand, and Mark, I capture raw, unmanipulated moments to engage with world cultures. My eclectic journey bridges a CalArts BFA in Theater and Film, practicing acupuncture and herbal medicine in Westlake since 2001, and, since 2024, curating voyages of a lifetime for small groups of creative travelers.

Unwrapping my first camera at age eight introduced me to the creative intersection of science and art. From developing black-and-white film to embracing early digital technology, it has always been a joy to explore our beautiful world through the latest lens.

My photography journey began as a teenager in a basement darkroom. By 1968, my work was featured in Detroit’s J.L. Hudson’s teen magazine. While minoring in photography at the University of Michigan, I sold prints and created large-scale campaign ads for Ford. Following a late-70s exhibition at Macon City Hall, I still shoot with 35mm and 4″ x 5″ press cameras.
